York Station Gateway

On Saturday 24 May temporary traffic lights will be in place in the York Railway Station and Queen Street area during highway works, as part of the ongoing York Station Gateway project. This is likely to cause long delays so please allow plenty of additional time for your journey and avoid the area if possible.

From 19:00 on Saturday 24 May until Tuesday 06:00 on Tuesday 27 May, Queen Street will be closed as these works continue.

All bus stops on the city walls side (RF to RJ) will be closed.

Only stops RC and RE on the York Railway Station side will be in use.

To assist passengers a free, fully accessible shuttle bus service (YSS) will connect Blossom Street, Clifford Street, Rougier Street and York Railway Station during the closure.

Buses will divert as follows during the closure:

  • Service 1 (Chapelfields to Wigginton) will divert via Rougier Street and Clifford Street, not serving York Railway Station
  • Services 3 (Askham Bar Park & Ride) and 4 (Acomb to City Centre) will terminate at Blossom Street, not serving York Railway Station.
  • Service 5/5A (Acomb to Strensall) will divert via Rougier Street and Clifford Street, not serving York Railway Station
  • Services 7 (Designer Outlet Park & Ride) and 9 (Monks Cross Park & Ride) will terminate at York Railway Station, not serving Nunnery Lane
  • Service 10 (Stamford Bridge to Poppleton) will run via Leeman Road, not serving York Railway Station, Blossom Street or Holgate Road
  • Services 11 (Bishopthorpe to York) and 14 (Woodthorpe to Haxby) will divert via Nunnery Lane and Skeldergate Bridge, not serving York Railway Station or Rougier Street

  • Services U1 and U2 (University of York to City Centre) will terminate at Rougier Street, not serving York Railway Station
  • City tour buses will not serve York Railway Station

All other bus services will operate to their normal route.

YSS will start from Blossom Street at 06:15, with buses departing every 20 minutes until 23:15.

In the other direction, buses will start at York Railway Station at 06:35, with buses departing every 20 minutes until 23:35.
