Walking for leisure
Regular walking can improve your stamina and energy, help keep your heart strong, and can help to control your weight. Just 30 minutes of active exercise every day is enough to maintain your fitness levels.
In York there are many ways in which you can get involved in organised leisure walking activities including short, led group York Health Walks, longer countryside walks and Nordic Walking sessions. You can download the latest Health Walks timetable from the bottom right of this page.
City of York council also publishes a series of countryside walk routes that you can follow in your own time.
York's Walkit.com tool helps you create and share leisure walks with others online; plot circular walks (ideal for office lunchtime walks or dog walking); and track your walking activity.
