Bridge restrictions to be lifted during TUC march
Lendal Bridge restrictions will be lifted for the day on Saturday 8th March, due to disruption caused by a TUC march.
The Trade Union Congress march will take place in the city centre, following the route shown in the map below. As one of the main alternative routes for traffic will be across Lendal Bridge, City of York Council will suspend the restrictions on Saturday only.
The march will begin and end at Clifford's Tower, following an approximately anticlockwise route:
The roads affected are: Clifford’s Tower, Tower Street, Castle Mills Bridge, Piccadilly, Lead Mill Lane, George Street, Fishergate Bar, Paragon Street, Barbican Road, Walmgate Bar, Hope Street, Lead Mill Lane, Piccadilly, Parliament Street, Feasegate, Market Street, Spurriergate, High Ousegate, Coppergate, Castlegate, Castle Car Park.
Traffic enforcement notice signs directly on Lendal Bridge will be covered up all day Saturday to notify drivers that the ANPR cameras will not be enforcing the restrictions.
Traffic delays are expected from approx 10am to 3pm with the main disruption between 11.30am to 1pm whilst the march is taking place. Visitors and residents are asked to plan their journeys accordingly if they are travelling through York that day.
All bus services will remain in place during the march but delays are expected. For more details on bus services, see our Buses section, call Bus Info on 01904 551400 or visit the Bus & Visitor Information Point located in York Rail Station.
The council’s bus warden will be on patrol in the city centre, working alongside the Traffic & CCTV control team based in West Offices.
