Last few days to have your say on city centre bike racks

Residents have just a few more days to give their views on potential sites for new cycle racks in the city centre.

City of York Council have worked in tandem with York BID to identify 18 potential new sites for cycle racks.
Residents and other regular users of the city centre have until Wednesday 28 February to give their views at
Cllr Gillies, Executive Member for Transport and Planning, said: "We want to encourage more people to cycle into the city, so we know that we need to significantly add to the 1500 cycle parking spaces we have at the moment.
"So please give us your views so we can make site that the new cycle parking provision is in the places people need them most."
Andrew Lowson, Executive Director for the York BID, said: "The BID prospectus outlined the need to team up with partners to try and improve the provision of secure bicycle parking in the city. Many commuters into York use secure cycle parking, which can often mean that there isn't sufficient space for residents and visitors.

By enhancing capacity, we'll hopefully alleviate some of the issues as well as encouraging more people to cycle in the city. In a survey last year, York was classed as having the third highest proportion of cycling commuters in the UK, let's push for the top spot."
