Queen Street Bridge Closures

Friday 19th April 8pm to Monday 22nd April 6am and from Friday 26th April 8pm to Monday 29 April 6am.

The closure of Queen Street Bridge is essential to enable the construction of the Station Gateway project which will bring improvements to bus stops and bus operations in the York Rail Station area. Unfortunately, it does mean that there will be some short-term disruption to bus services on these weekends.

Closing Queen Street Bridge means that some bus services coming into the City Centre from the west of York will need to terminate at Blossom Street and some bus services travelling east will need to terminate at York Station. Information on changes to each affected bus route will be outlined below once confirmed. If you are using the bus to connect with a train or travel into the city centre on these dates, please allow extra time for your journey.

To ensure that the rail station remains accessible to all bus users the Council has contracted a shuttle bus service to operate between Blossom Street and York Rail Station via Nunnery Lane-Tower Street-Rougier Street. This shuttle service will be called YSS, it will operate at 15-minute intervals in both directions and will call at stops between Blossom Street and York Rail Station. For the City Centre please use Clifford Street stop TG in the direction towards Blossom Street and Clifford Street stop TD in the direction towards the rail station.

All buses operating on the YSS route will be fully-accessible double deckers and there will be no charge for using the service.

The first bus on the YSS route will be at 20:00 from Blossom Street on Friday 19th April, with the first departure from York Rail Station at 20:15 then every 15 minutes in each direction until the last buses depart Blossom Street at 23:15 and York Rail Station at 23:30.

On both Saturday 20th April and Sunday 21st April the first YSS shuttle bus will depart Blossom Street at 06:15 with the first departure from York Rail Station at 06:30 then every 15 minutes in each direction until the last buses depart Blossom Street at 23:15 and York Rail Station at 23:30.

The same service pattern and timings will apply to the following weekend on Friday 26th April, Saturday 27th April and Sunday 28th April.

A walking route diversion will be in place throughout the closure period between Blossom Street and York Rail Station via Micklegate and Station Rise. A map showing this route is available on the project website.
