Festival of Cycling and Sky Ride 2016
The Festival of Cycling was back for a one-day special event in Rowntree Park on Sunday 11 September 2016 to coincide with SkyRide York.
Adjacent to the SkyRide route, which attracted more than 10,000 riders this year, the Festival offered lots of opportunities for two wheeled fun for all ages and abilities from tots through to grandparents and those with special needs.
The Airbag offered BMX enthusiasts the chance to try cycling tricks and, as usual, we had a fabulous BMX stunt display by Savage Skills.
York’s Sky Ride took riders on a fantastic 7km traffic-free route through the city’s famous streets taking in well known landmarks such as York Minster and Clifford’s Tower.
More entertainment was on hand in the Butchers Field area of Rowntree Park and at the Eye of York including a Q&A session with Team GB Olympic cyclists.
Here are a selection of our favourite images from this year's Sky Ride and Festival of Cycling.
This was the last big city Sky Ride this year but local bike rides courtesy of Sky Ride Locals are continuing. These are guided by friendly British Cycling trained Ride Leaders along scenic planned routes. With different levels, there’s something for everyone – whether you’re building your confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge.
