Bus Service Operators Grant

Bus Service Operators Grant

Electric bus web

Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) is a grant paid by HM Government to operators of eligible bus services and community transport organisations to help them recover some fuel costs. The amount each bus operator receives is based on their annual fuel consumption.

For bus services which are operated under a contract with financial support from a local authority, the grant is paid to the local authority instead of the bus operator. This is called devolved BSOG. The local authority is free to choose whether it passes the devolved BSOG funding on to bus operators or uses it to fund other transport expenditure in the local area.

Local authorities are required to publish details of devolved BSOG expenditure in their annual returns to the Department for Transport. The returns from City of York Council are available to download from this page.
