Pip’s pedometer challenge

Pip likes to be competitive, so when she visited the i-Travel York stall at the Tang Hall Big Local event in September she took the opportunity to set herself an i-Travel challenge, to encourage herself to become more active. Pip challenged herself to walk 12,000 steps every day, measured using her new i-Travel pedometer, to surpass the recommended 10,000 steps a day that an adult should take to maintain good health. “It is interesting to see the difference between the numbers of steps you take in a day” explains Pip, “and having the pedometer encourages me to do better each day.”

Pip works as a primary school teacher and, inspired by her i-Travel challenge, has come up with a creative idea to encourage her class to be more active, which she will integrate into her lessons. “Each student will count their steps for a week” explains Pip. “They will then each plot a graph showing how their activity levels change over time. The children seem really enthusiastic about the project.”

Aside from inspiring her class to be more active, Pip hopes to expand on her personal challenge by walking the Minster Way with her husband. For now, Pip continues to use her pedometer to continue pushing herself each day.  “I would happily recommend i-Travel to a friend,” says Pip, “They have lots of useful information.”
