Millie is bowled over as our Kids Activity Challenge winner
Thanks to Tenpin at Clifton Moor, Millie Anderson (aged 10) and her family enjoyed a free game of bowling after completing one of i-Travel York’s Kids Activity Challenges and entering our special children’s prize draw.
Millie’s challenge was to keep a record of how much time she spent cycling, walking and scooting over a week. Doctors advise that children should be active for at least 60 minutes a day to keep fit and well, so this was the ultimate goal. Millie’s sister Alice (also aged 10) also completed the challenge.
Travel Advisers Amy and Steve met up Millie and her father John at Tenpin to present them with their prize. Millie said the Kids Activity Challenge was “great” whilst her Dad said that the space on the challenge cards was “sometimes not big enough” for all the activity Millie, Alice and her brother Matthew get up to!
The whole family enjoy cycling – often biking to Matthew’s football matches together. A favourite place to cycle is along the river and Millennium Bridge. The family like to have “little races” by the river, as long as geese are avoided! John also recommends York Sport Village’s one kilometre off-road cycle track as a safe place to cycle with children.
John feels that the family have definitely benefited from an increase in activity as a result of the Challenge. He is delighted that he feels fitter since cycling more, and estimates that his family do at least an extra 14 miles a week together! John says that Millie, Alice and Matthew are always off on their bikes or off to do sport, and he’s happy that “now they’re growing up a bit more, we can all aim for a healthy lifestyle together”.
