Monks Cross partner with City of York Council for Green Wheels
Monks Cross Shopping Park are ‘going green’ with the help of City of York Council. There will be an exciting cycling event at the shopping park where all our visitors are invited to come along to the Green Wheels event on Wednesday 22 February between 10am and 3pm to increase their cycling knowledge, get advice and have some fun!
The Green Wheels event includes ‘try-out areas’ where adults and children can have a go on a selection of bicycles, a cycle training area where advice and tips will be shared by the professionals and displays of the latest bike models and kit which includes the latest electric bikes on the market. Anyone feeling adventurous can make themselves a drink on a bicycle-powered smoothie maker or race their friend on a bicycle-powered Scalextric!
To top off the event, there will be loads of free giveaways with a chance to win Monks Cross vouchers by entering a Green Wheels competition on the day.
Anne Sanderson, Monks Cross Travel Plan Co-ordinator said ‘We have some great local businesses coming to our Green Wheels event on 22 February, which will be a good opportunity for all our customers to come along and have some cycling fun. We’re running a fabulous competition where shopping vouchers can be won so there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the Green Wheels event.’
City of York Council Executive Member for Transport, Cllr Ian Gillies, said: ‘This event is part of our continued efforts to promote sustainable travel in York through the i-Travel York programme which aims to get more people travelling sustainably in and around the city. Often a change in travel habits, even for a few days a week for work or leisure purposes, can improve health and wellbeing, reduce road congestion and improve air quality.’
